Modern Slavery Policy

Simon on the Streets is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in all areas of our work and supply chains. We recognise our responsibility under the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 to act with integrity and transparency.

1. Our Commitment

We have zero tolerance of modern slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking.

We are committed to acting ethically in all our operations and relationships.

We aim to ensure that our supply chains and practices are free from exploitation.

2. Our Organisation

Simon on the Streets is a homelessness charity providing outreach and support to people sleeping rough or vulnerably housed in Leeds and Bradford. While we do not have large or complex supply chains, we engage with suppliers for office equipment, IT, professional services, and fundraising events.

3. Supply Chains

We expect all suppliers and partners to uphold the same high standards.

Where possible, we source from UK-based suppliers with transparent labour practices.

We include modern slavery clauses in contracts where proportionate.

4. Risk Assessment and Due Diligence

We carry out proportionate due diligence on suppliers and partners, focusing on areas where risks of exploitation may be higher (e.g. catering, event staff, cleaning, or overseas procurement).

5. Staff Awareness & Training

Staff and volunteers are briefed on recognising signs of exploitation.

Safeguarding procedures ensure concerns about service users potentially at risk of trafficking are identified and escalated.

We work with local safeguarding boards and authorities when concerns arise.

6. Reporting

All staff, volunteers, and stakeholders are encouraged to report concerns about modern slavery or exploitation. Reports can be made confidentially to admin@simononthestreets.co.uk

Concerns can also be raised externally via the Modern Slavery Helpline: 0800 0121 700.

7. Monitoring and Review

This policy is reviewed annually by the Board of Trustees.

Updates are made to reflect changes in law, guidance, and best practice.

A statement of compliance will be published each year on our website.
